Dear Mrs. Kemp,
This project was very useful to me as it allowed me to gain more knowledge about the true nature of wolves. I was able to use my AP Environmental Science book as a source for this project. Since I was able to do this, I was able to make connections to that class that I would have been unable to do if I had not completed this project. I feel that through doing this project I have come to better understand the true importance of wolves. It helped me to realize that their persecution was not only horrible, it affected people's idea of what a wolf is. Now that wolves are an extremely uncommon sight in North Carolina, many farmers are scared of them and will shoot them on impulse for fear of their own lives as well as their family's.
I feel that through doing this project I was able to spread the awareness of the misunderstood wolf and show just how similar they are to humans. Hopefully, someone through reading this site will gain a greater understanding of the wolf itself that will lead to the saving of the life of just one wolf. The bane of the wolf's existence is simply that people are uneducated. They seem to see only teeth and claws and not a valuable animal in this world. This is truly saddening.
I have never completed a project like this before. It was an interesting experience that I am not quite sure I liked. While this is a good strategy for kids who do not wish to do work, I believe that a research paper would have been better organized and resulted in more useful learning.
Sincerely,
Lindsay Barnes
